COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
- Creative Arts is a course designed for children between the ages of 4-6 years of age. Emphasis is
placed on experimenting with a wide range of materials, tools, and techniques which are age appropriate. Processes include the exploration of drawing, painting, printing, and sculpture
- Studio Art is designed at three levels (Adult, Teen, Child). Participants select the medium and subject
they wish to explore and the art faculty designs individualized classes which help the participant learn the techniques and mediums unique to their selection
- Drawing classes include the study of materials, tools, and techniques unique to graphite, charcoal,
conte, pastel, color pencil, pen and ink, marker, and wax colors.
- Painting classes include the study of materials, tools, and techniques unique to watercolor, oil, acrylic,
gouache, casein, and tempera. Participants select the individual medium they wish to explore.
- Printmaking classes include the study of materials, tools, and techniques unique to block printing
(foam, wood, linoleum, embossing) as well as lithography. No etching is available.
- Design I classes are designed to offer the participant opportunities to explore Art Elements (Line, Shape,
Form, Texture, Value, Color) and how they are used by the artist in the creative process.
- Design II classes offer participants opportunities to explore Art Principles (Balance, Positive/Negative
space, Focus, Scale, Proportion, Emphasis, Focus, Movement) and how they are used by the artist in the creative process.
- Portfolio Preparation is designed for the student who intends to study the visual arts beyond high
school. It includes portfolio design and preparation, content selection, personal statement writing, digital photography prep, posting a gallery, and final presentation.
NOTE: Students in this class are eligible for membership in the NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY sponsored by the National Art Education Association and FCAC.
- Cartooning is a series of classes that focus on the creation of original cartoon characters. Emphasis is
placed on developing faces, bodies, locations, situations, and developing strips.
- Caricature classes are designed to emphasis the development of a personal style. Understanding the
process of scale, proportion, and drawing techniques is important to this course.
